Lipno nad Vltavou

Lipno nad Vltavou is a quaint town in southern Bohemia lying on the left bank of the Lipno reservoir near the dam.

The town, whose history goes back to the 16th century, used to be situated in the Vltava valley. The fundamental change occured in the middle of the 20th century, when the Lipno reservoir, which is with a surface of over 4 500 ha and with a capacity of over 300 million m3 the largest water surface in the Czech republic, was built. The original historical town was from a large part flooded and instead of it a new resort was built.
